The news of late has been dominated by pirate attacks on cargo vessels in the Indian Ocean of Somalia. Navy Seals and heroic Captains are defending against pirate attacks in Somalia as if they were cast in the 17th Century. The dangers of pirates and the reasons why these modern day pirates exist is something to ponder, but my daughter pointed out a very good point. While watching the morning news and exclaiming, "That's Awesome!", she noted that it was amazing that there was pirate news. Then she went on to conclude, "The next thing you know they will be talking about Unicorns."
Little does she know about media bias and the state of our current information venues. Pirate bias exist and I had to be the one to break it to her. Although equal time should be given to Unicorns and Unicorn adventures, especially if we are going to focus all of this energy on Pirates, there is little chance of that happening. I told her even if a band of pirates fly off on a unicorn with their booty they would not get shown on tv. In order for this other equally fantastic phenomena is going to get any respect we are going to have to speak out and demand action by the Obama administration and the United Nations.
